I have decided that I should definitely keep a tally of how many PB&J sandwiches I eat over the summer. How many can you possibly eat in 80 days? I found ten dollars and donated it to the cause! So now we're officially at $398. This week was kind of a low for me. I've been stressed about being able to manage fundraising along with school work and training. Especially since I'm already so far behind. I was having some doubts about whether or not I made the right decision to go ahead with this. I definitely want to do it, but it is without a doubt not the easiest path. It would be easier for me to apply for internships in coastal engineering, earn money over the summer to provide for myself this coming school year, and really make the most comfortable decision for me and my family. Just when it started to seem like a mountain that I could not climb, my friend Will said this. "The harder it is, the greater the feeling of accomplishment when you finish it." He is 100% right. I'm not doing this because it's easy. I'm dong it because it is hard. I need to prove to myself that I can do this. I have a hard time believing that reaching out to help someone could ever be a bad thing. Even if it doesn't change the world it will change you and it might change the people you've reached out to as well. This is the challenge and the change that I feel I need right now.
So all in all. Now is not the time to be discouraged and I won't back down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvlTJrNJ5lA
This summer I will be volunteering for Bike&Build which means I will be riding my bicycle across the U.S. from SC to Santa Cruz,CA to raise awareness for affordable housing. Once we hit the road you can see what Ive been up to here, but first I have to raise $4,500 for the cause prior to the trip. If youre interested in being amazing and helping me out you can donate by clicking the donate button on my rider page. Every little bit counts! http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/5897.

Only 3 other riders
Last night I had a dream that almost all of the other riders in my group dropped out of the trip and I was going be biking with only three other riders over the summer... And so the Bike and Build dreams commence.
Donation Update: Still just under $400. Not bad for one week but still mega far behind. If any of my Vassar friends are growing weary of doing your portion of household chores donate $ and let me pick up the trash take out the compost do the dishes or mop the floor. I'll probably be so happy you donated that I'll make you fresh banana bread too.

Today
Today was crazy busy. Even though I slept through my alarm I'm still exhausted. I'm up from $165 to $260 in one day! A little more than a quarter of the way to $1000! A big thanks again to everyone who has donated! Lastly, if you're wondering how much to donate... My friend came up with a solution. He says that you should just think about how much you would pay to not have to get up at six every day and bike across the country this summer and divide that in half.
