This summer I will be volunteering for Bike&Build which means I will be riding my bicycle across the U.S. from SC to Santa Cruz,CA to raise awareness for affordable housing. Once we hit the road you can see what Ive been up to here, but first I have to raise $4,500 for the cause prior to the trip. If youre interested in being amazing and helping me out you can donate by clicking the donate button on my rider page. Every little bit counts! http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/5897.

It's Like I Just Asked 700 People to Prom
By popular demand.... Another video. Please forgive me for the slip ups. I start to make less sense when I'm tired. I apologize. So what's next for me? I've got a couple fundraising ideas and a schedule I made with my little sister. This week I'm going to try to start pulling together a murder mystery dinner, a golf tournament, and a night at Mahoney's Irish Pub & Steakhouse with live music from, of course, Vassar's best student groups and hopefully more. I could always use a hand with planning events so if you're at Vassar and any of this interests you, please let me know! I would love an extra hand. I'm currently at $1,152 in donations. Thanks again for your contribution and support!

A Good Week
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!! I finally passed the $1000 dollar mark! This means that I can order my bike and start training on the bike that will be taking me across the country! Recently I've been struggling to find a balance between training, fundraising, and effectively highlighting the affordable housing issue. But I've been surprised with how many of my friends are right there to support me with it. I really can't thank you enough. Another B&B cyclist shared an article that I would like to post here as well. It demonstrates the importance of affordable housing in todays economy.

Sweat Equity Hours
http://www.flintriverhabitat.org/events.html
Just got back home from a week of volunteering for Flint River Habitat for Humanity in Albany, GA. My first time volunteering for Habitat ever. It was a blast! 18 students from Vassar combined with students from BC, Truman, and Penn State volunteered for at least 36 hours during their spring break to help with the construction of 3 different houses in Albany. We stayed at a camp where I slept in a room with about 30 other girls. Each day we woke up to a symphony of alarms at 6:30, left camp for the worksite at around 7:30, started work at 8:00, ate lunch at 12:00, and finished our work day at 4:00. Evening activities were filled with meeting new people, visiting and naming the cows on the nearby farm, cooking, basketball, s'mores, and movies. I learned that I really like hammering nails, I don't like sawing, construction workers are generally awesome, no offense but Vassar students may not be the best people to ask for fundraising ideas (I would like to keep my kidneys), and fake cockroaches can provide endless amounts of fun on trips like these. With fundraising I am currently at $708, there's still a couple of people that owe me for grilled cheese and baked goods. With them included I'll have raised $748. Thanks again to my supporters. Make it a great week!

Grilled Cheese and a Cookie
I can't believe my last post was on Sunday! Its also hard to believe it's already Thursday. I've been crazy busy with my fundraisers, classes, and training. I've had the most success with delivering grilled cheese and a cookie to people in the dorms and library until the am. Its midterms so people are loving the deliveries and are pretty happy to spend the money for such a great cause. I've raised $140 in the past two days which puts me at $538 total. It's been crazy fun but I'm pretty exhausted and the snowstorm makes deliveries a little less pleasant. Being so tired has definitely interfered with my training which I figured for survival, I should be averaging at least ten miles a day. But I've only got one more night of grilled cheese making. Then I'm headed south for spring break with one of my awesome house mates to volunteer for habitat for humanity in Albany Ga for a week. Sleep will come in due time (although road trips are my favorite... We'll probably be in the Carolinas before I calm down enough to sleep.)
Thanks again to everyone for the donations and good luck to those studying for midterms!
